There comes a point in our lives where we start to question who we are and why we are here. Often called a spiritual awakening, it’s the start of a beautiful journey to finding yourself and your place in the world. Today, I want to help you start your journey to remembering who you are by giving you the first step.
What I will cover in this post:
- The first step towards knowing yourself: balancing your energy
- What divine feminine and masculine energy is and why it’s important
- What imbalance energy looks like and insights into how the imbalance happens
- Provide actionable steps towards uncovering your own imbalance and how to fix it
What is Divine Feminine and Masculine Energy?
Feminine and masculine energy comprise the two sides of your consciousness, the yin and the yang to who you are as a divine being. You need both sides balanced and working together to live your soul purpose.
The optimal percentage of divine energy balance is not one size fits all. Everyone’s balance is different and it is not always split evenly at 50/50. You have to find your own mixture of the two that works for you.
What Divine Feminine and Masculine Energy Isn’t
This energy is not gender based as all of us have both types. A man displaying more feminine energy or a woman displaying more masculine energy does not have anything to do with gender identification.
Why is it Important?
You can’t know who you are or why you are here in this lifetime if you are favoring one energy over the other. If you think about it, you need both sides to find your purpose. The feminine side to know who you are, what you want and which path to take (creativity, intuition, loving) and the masculine side to take action, stay disciplined and achieve your goals.
Here is another way to look at it: You can take action towards your desires (masculine energy) but without the feminine energy of creativity, it is going to be much harder to get there. You may think you know what you want in life but without access to your intuition, you will never truly know if you are on the right path.

What does Imbalance Look Like and How Does it Get Imbalanced?
Imbalance may not be obvious at first, but the more you understand the difference between the two sides of the divine being you are, the easier it becomes to spot.
Wounded Feminine Energy
High Masculine/Low Feminine
I will use myself as an example. Growing up, I often heard don’t throw like a girl, don’t cry, don’t be so sensitive. As a result, I formed limiting beliefs that viewed feminine qualities as weak and frowned upon. Because of these limiting beliefs, I felt that the only way to get ahead in life was to become fiercely independent and only rely on myself.
I did whatever it took to be considered successful in the eyes of everyone whose opinion I valued. This included take a corporate job I hated, cutting off my hair and forcing myself to be someone I am not.
I constantly beat myself up over my failure to achieve what I wanted in the time frame I wanted it in.
Wounded Masculine Energy
High Feminine/Low Masculine
I know a guy whose girlfriend is the perfect example of wounded masculine energy. She doesn’t feel like she can be seen in public unless she is fully made up and wants to be considered the hottest girl in the room. She doesn’t have a job and looks to the men in her life (ex-boyfriends and ex-husbands included) to provide for her and her love of retail therapy.
How Does Your Energy Get Imbalanced?
All of us are born whole. It isn’t until our conditioning begins from our parents, teachers, society and friends do we start to shift the scales to one side or the other.
To our detriment, we have been raised to believe we have certain roles to play. Depending on how our parents (or the ones who raised us) believed, we were pushed to follow what they felt was best for us in order to achieve their version of success.
It starts as early as blue or pink, doll or action figure, ballet or soccer.
Like me, some of us were thrust to the opposite side of what is considered the gender norm. I grew up playing with GI Joe and playing soccer but there was always a part of me that really wanted to play with my barbies, only I was too embarrassed to admit it.
However, it is not just the way we were raised, it is also the limiting beliefs we form as children that tip the balance. The suppressed feelings and urges we keep under wraps as to not be judged or considered different.
How Do You Balance Your Energy?
First, accept that you are most likely imbalanced. Second comes awareness of how your imbalance shows up. Finally, work to find the unique balance that is authentically you.
